Sherlocked 2017 Thoughts and Improvements

After two weeks and having still not fully recovered from the tiredness and post-con blues, I’m finally ready to discuss Sherlocked Convention 2017. As you are probably aware, I did attend and review last year’s event (which can be found here ), but was not too complimentary of the event overall, thus making me somewhat sceptical of this year’s event. A key change that the event undertook this year was the venue – from Excel Centre, London to The Hilton Hotel, Birmingham. To me, this did offer a quieter and more intimate event than last year, and did mean that you often bumped into guests whilst walking around, thus creating a very casual atmosphere. On the other hand, however lovely the venue was, I did feel a little trapped, not to mention the fact that I don’t think I could ever afford it again. The room pricing offer was great, and the hotel quality was fantastic, however, it was largely the cost of food and drink, as well as minimal vegetarian food choices, which did create...

Body Shaming

Image
Originally, I planned to come back to this blog pounding out some brilliantly mediocre reviews and posts; however, after some recent messages I received from a certain girl, I felt that there was something I really need to talk about. I have been in two minds about actually posting this, especially due to a number of threats that she has directed at me, but I refuse to be silenced. With that said, I am still not going to go into large amounts of detail in regard to the backstory, as I feel that would be too much and subtract from the point of this post, which is that of body shaming. Let’s start from the beginning; About a month ago, I had become quite close friends with a guy, which appeared to erupt a jealous rage within his ex-girlfriend. Long story short, they got back together; however, he and I remained FRIENDS, which clearly didn’t sit well with her. When they then broke up after roughly a week of them getting together, her blame quickly shifted to me – and before I...

Airstrikes on Syria

This is a post that I didn’t think I would ever be writing, and to be honest, I am scared as hell to write it. I know how picky and pedantic people can get, especially when it comes to politics, so if I do miss out any major things, please bear in mind that I’m a 19 year old university drop out, who has A-Levels in film and Media, and who is also heavily sleep-deprived. I’m only human. Earlier this evening, our government have decided to authorise UK action against Isis, and have voted to support air strikes in Syria. To me, the news does not only sicken me, but it brings me to tears, knowing that my future will be nothing more than fear and war. Not only that, but there will be innocent Syrian men, women and children who go to sleep tonight, and are unlikely to wake up in the morning. How can these lives be treated as less valuable than those of people who are in Europe or America? How can anyone decided which drop of innocent blood is more valuable? I mean, excuse me if I’m ...

"Cut4Zayn"

This blog was supposed to be centred around reviews; however recent events have lead me into such a state of anger that I feel the need to express my opinion. As practically all of you know, the internet has recently been flooded with the latest pop news of Zayn Malik leaving the (in my opinion, dreadful) boy band, One Direction. Obviously the (largely) teenage community fled to twitter to "mourn", and before long, "cut4zayn" was trending. Yes ladies and gentlemen, this is the society we live in. A society were mental illness and serious issues are mocked, assumably due to their lack of understanding. Not only were many people forced to stare at triggering and disturbing images, but others then continued to mock the concept of self harm. But just think, would the same happen to a physical illness. Would people walk around saying "that is so cancerous" as opposed to "that is so depressing". Of course they wouldn't, because it's sick! To ma...
